The Rolling Stones performed a rare cover for the first time in 50 years during a July 3rd show at FedEx Field in Landover, Maryland. Mick Jagger introduced “Mercy Mercy” as a song originally done by Don Covay & The Goodtimers. The Stones included this song on their 1965 album Out Of Our Heads and it was a Top 40 hit in the US. The last time The Stones performed “Mercy Mercy” was during a July 5, 1969 free concert at London’s Hyde Park just days after the death of Brian Jones. The Washington show marked the fourth stop on the Stones’ No Filter Tour, which opened in Chicago on June 21st as Jagger retuned to the concert stage for the first time following heart valve replacement surgery in April. That tour comes to Mile High Stadium in Denver on August 10th.
